At the end of each day we plan to recreate a meal from one of the feature films for your pleasure …

Wine Makers’ Dinner : Château Capion

We are very happy to announce the next in our new series of wine tasting events at The Galley

Enjoy an exclusive presentation by Howard Laughton of Château Capion.

Old manuscripts mention the château’s original construction in the 16th century, but most of the records we have today date back to 1873, when the Domaine de Capion was acquired by the Keittinger family.

The Château Capion estate is a 45 hectare vineyard with a unique terroir. 200 metres up the Terrasses du Larzac, the land around its château, winery and wine cellar extends over three broad geological zones, the soils underfoot changing from Montpellier sandstone and clay to limestone gravels and alluvial silts. These habitats, the biodiversity present all around, and the climatic variations at Capion are nuanced in wines that express, in their power and finesse, their provenance.

This exclusive event will feature a range of Languedoc wines from Chateau Capion and a special menu especially created to perfectly accompany them.

Meet the Artist #7 : Chris Newson

On Wednesday 5 September join us for dinner to meet Chris Newson who will talk about his work and his relationship with mentor, Maggi Hambling, CBE (who will also be joining us).

As with previous
Meet the Artist events each diner will receive a unique original piece of work by the artist, as well as enjoying a special three-course meal.

The first event is an exclusive presentation by Gary and Kathy Jordan, owners of Jordan Wines, South Africa.

Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines at this top wine estate since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. Together this husband and wife team is a phenomenon. Gary’s parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 164 hectare Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme, specialising in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes.

This exclusive event will feature a range of wines from the Jordan estate and a special menu especially created to perfectly accompany them.

My homeland of Turkey is a wonderful source of inspiration for new menu ideas. I have taken the cuisine of two of the country’s biggest cities to create a special street food themed menu only available for lunch.

Marmalade competition

Woodbridge Kitchen Company are holding their annual Marmalade competition “Best Marmalade in Town” and inviting entries to be dropped into their shop. An entry form should be completed with each entry, which can be downloaded from here or picked up from their shop.

This is the third year of running and they’re hoping to top last year with 50 entries. The winner will win a £50 voucher to spend at the Woodbridge Kitchen Company, with other prizes awarded for presentation and innovation.

Judging will take place at WKC early March by a panel including Harvey from Honey+Harvey and Ugur from The Galley, plus representatives from WKC.

Last year Ugur announced the winner which you can view here.

Neil Courtier

This entry isn’t an event, we’re just sharing some very sad news.

We are very sad to hear about the sudden death of our close friend Neil Courtier; the ever popular host of our regular wine tasting events.

I’ve known Neil for nearly 30 years and he supported me and The Galley from the very start. He was a great friend and his wine knowledge was extraordinary. He will be a huge loss to all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

Let’s raise a glass to toast the memory of a true friend.
